A slideshow is a display of a series of chosen images or slides which is done for artistic or instructional purposes. Improperly staged or scripted slideshows can be seen by some as being a crutch for the presenter, and that the use of content put on the slideshow is not relevant or constructive to the presentation.

PowerPoint is a particular kind of Slideshow software produced by Microsoft. It has been the subject of much discussion and criticism. training lectures and sales demonstrations are commonly conducted using Powerpoint, and PowerPoint criticism is not usually leveled at the software itself, but at the weakness of the presenter or material. The term slideware has entered modern industry bandwagon to describe the paper copy materials distributed as part of slideshows.
